Until a vaccine is available, staying COVID-19 safe to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and our patients, is essential.

COVID safety fundamentals continue to include wearing a mask, frequent handwashing and appropriate physical distancing.

"Because you can be asymptomatic and spread the virus without even knowing, it's important for every VUMC employee to remain vigilant in our battle with the pandemic. Following these basic steps both at work and when out in the community will keep the virus transmission rate as low as possible and help keep others safe," said Tom Talbot, MD, VUMC's Chief Hospital Epidemiologist.

Simple Steps to Keep You Safe From COVID-19

DISTANCING -  When it comes to physical distancing in the workplace, maintain a 6-foot distance from colleagues when possible. There is a special reminder to respect the 6-foot requirement, whether inside or out, in areas where you eat with your mask down. You should also avoid congregating in break or work rooms.

MASKING - Mask are now required in all indoor and outdoor areas except administrative offices where a 6-foot distance between colleagues can be maintained. Wear your mask correctly, covering your mouth and nose, especially anytime you are within 6 feet of others.

HAND HYGIENE - Wash your hands with soap and water, or hand sanitizer, many times every day.

CHECK SYMPTOMS - Monitor yourself and your family for symptoms. If symptoms develop, isolate yourself immediately and get tested.

WAVE HELLO - Greet colleagues or others by saying hello with a wave or head nod. Do not shake hands.

COVER - Cough or sneeze into your sleeve, elbow or a tissue.
