Why photos are important to content marketing

- For some reason, photography often gets forgotten about when planning out a content marketing strategy. And I'd argue that using photos effectively is one of the most critical decisions you'll make. Study after study has shown that content shared on any social network gets more engagement if there's a photo involved. Recently, HubSpot wrote this great article pulling together different studies from a variety of sources to show why visual content is so important in your content marketing efforts. Just to highlight a couple of them, let's scroll down here. And you can see that right here, tweets with images receive 18% more clicks, 89% more favorites and 150% more retweets.

Further down the page in this article, I want to highlight the fact that I'm not alone in thinking visuals are important. 70% of marketers plan to increase their use of original visual assets this year. So you can see, photographs are important. Think about the last time you scrolled through a social network, and even if you didn't click on anything, posts that included a visual of some sort got more of your attention. Because we're wired to notice and pay attention to images. It doesn't matter if you're going to use pictures for podcast album artwork, the thumbnail on a YouTube video, the header image for a blog post, or just to showcase a new product on your Instagram feed.
