Beximco, LankaBangla, Baraka Power top turnover chart

Beximco, the flagship company of the industrial conglomerate Beximco Group, Monday dominated the bourses transaction chart as investors were active on its shares throughout the session.

Bangladesh Export Import Company (Beximco), LankaBangla Finance, Baraka Power, Mercantile Bank and Far Chemical Industries were the most-active shares in terms of value on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).

According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 12.31 million shares of Beximco were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 444 million on Monday. It was 4.43 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover value.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 35.30 and Tk 36.80, before closing at Tk 35.50 on the day, losing by 2.20 per cent over the previous day.

Beximco is the largest company within the Beximco Group that operates across multiple industry verticals. The company is present in textiles, real estate and hospitality, marine food, commodities trading, ICT, ceramics, and aviation.

Beximco Group vice chairman Salman F Rahman's name came on the global rich list. According to China-based research firm Hurun Global Rich List 2017, he ranked 1,685th among 2,257 billionaires across the globe.

The company's second quarter (Q2) earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.22 for the October-December period of 2016 as against Tk 0.28 for the same period a year ago.

In six months for July-December 2016, EPS stood at Tk 0.56 as against Tk 0.44 in the same period in the previous year.

Beximco, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1989, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2015.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 10 billion and authorised capital is Tk 6.91 billion, while the total number of securities is 691.17 million. The total market cap stood at Tk 28.85 billion as on Monday.

The sponsor-directors own 20.15 per cent stake in Beximco, while institutional investors own 12.16 per cent, foreign investors 9.75 per cent and the general public 57.94 per cent as on January 31, 2017, the DSE data shows.

Beximco was, closely followed by LankaBangla with 6.65 million shares worth Tk 385 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 57 each, losing 4.84 per cent over the previous day.

Baraka Power was the third, with some 6.08 million shares of Tk 295 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 4.23 per cent to close at Tk 47.60.

Mercantile Bank emerged as the fourth with about 12.78 million shares of Tk 258 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 20.40 each, advancing 2.0 per cent.

Far Chemicals was the fifth on the DSE's turnover list, with some 7.46 million shares of Tk 211 million changing hands. Each share of the company closed at Tk 28.10 each, losing 1.75 per cent over the previous day.

Besides, the five most-traded shares in terms of value on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) were Beximco, Shepherd Industries, Mercantile Bank, Beximco Pharma and Appollo Ispat Complex.

According to data available with the CSE, some 1.19 million shares of Beximco were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 43.07 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 35.50, losing 1.93 per cent over the previous day.

Shepherd Industries notched the second spot, with 599,610 shares worth Tk 30.64 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 5.32 per cent to close at Tk 49.80 each.

Mercantile Bank was the third with 1.17 million shares worth Tk 23.57 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 20.20, advancing 1.0 per cent the previous day.

Beximco Pharma was the fourth with 233,578 shares of Tk 23.55 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 99.70 each, losing 2.17 per cent.

Appollo Ispat was the fifth on the CSE's transaction list with 826,476 shares of Tk 20.35 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 0.41 per cent to close at Tk 24.30 each.
