What does 2018 hold for ICT in Bangladesh?

The incumbent Awami League government has embarked on a series of initiatives to promote technology in Bangladesh. Over the past four years, a number of new developments have seen the light of day. As the New Year rolls on, 2018 looks to provide even more additions to the burgeoning ICT sector. The Information & Communication Technology Division has listed a number of ongoing projects to further develop the ICT sector.

28 IT parks
Currently under construction nationwide to develop the ICT infrastructure in Bangladesh.

2.8 million sq ft
After construction, the IT parks will provide a grand 2.8 million sq ft in office space

300,000 new jobs
An estimated 300,000 new jobs will be created once the IT parks are operational

In addition, the government has the following projects lined up to be delivered: Technology Lab & Software Finishing School, Modernization of Rural & Urban Lives, Smart City Integrated e-Government, VLSI lab at universities, National Security Centre & Forensic Lab, IT Park for employment, Digital Connectivity, National Cyber Security Agency, Virtual University of Multimedia & Innovation. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak told the Bangla Tribune the government is relentlessly working to realize Vision 2021 in order to eradicate poverty within 2030 and make Bangladesh a developed country within 2041.
