What is Sequential Content?
Sequential content is any type of content that has a chronological structure. In marketing, there are several types of sequential content you might use:

How-to articles that give readers a series of steps to follow to achieve a desired outcome.
A series of articles on the same topic that leads the reader from a beginning to an end
A compelling story that demonstrates how use of your product causes someone to move from one point to another in pursuit of an important goal

Sequential Content and Social Media
Social media functions is the showcase for sequential content. You can deliver the content to your prospects in an infinite variety of ways, using both pictures and text, on a variety of platforms.

For example, you can use a site like Pinterest to deliver a "storybook" illustrating important sequential content. Instead of just pinning photos of interest, you can pin a series of photos that illustrate each step in a process you are trying to teach your prospects or that tell the story of a frustrated person solving his or her problem using your product.

Sequential content, when delivered in a series, gets people addicted to your content, which keeps them coming back for more. Sequential content works well with social media because it encourages subscriptions. If you like part one, you'll want to subscribe so you know when part 2 is released. A blog series is a great example of sequential content. You can post each day's installment, and include links to the previous installments so readers can find them easily and read them from the beginning.

Similarly, you can make a video series to upload to Youtube or a series of podcasts to upload to an Internet radio station.

The more time your audience spends on your social site, the more likely you are to capture their information and their interests.

How to Create Sequential Content
The key to creating effective sequential content is to determine what outcomes for which your clients hunger, and then work backwards. If you know your ideal clients' common goals, you can easily create content that demonstrates how to reach those goals.

For example, if your clients' main problem is that they get stressed out because they're time-crunched, you can create sequential content around the theme of time management. You can write a series of blog posts that contain steps for time management (one step in each post), create videos showing how to use the calendar software your business sells and create a storyboard on Pinterest about someone who moves from struggling with time management to overcoming this challenge.

By approaching the issue in this way, you set yourself up as an expert in time management, which is important if you want to sell time management products to your clients. You also create a lot of buzz around your time management products by approaching the issue from several different angles. Most importantly, you capture your target audience's attention by using sequential content on a topic important to them.

If you think about your clients' needs and create innovative sequential content, you will attract the attention of prospects who need what you have to offer. Ultimately, this will result in far more sales for you than any other type of marketing strategy.
