Although few of us are infected with the corona virus Covid-19, we are all affected one way or another. Many are uncertain or concerned about what to do and how to behave.

There has been a lot of focus on infection control and how to deal with transmission of infection, but it is also important to safeguard your own and others' mental health.

We in the Red Cross have therefore drawn up the Corona Safety Rules. They provide reminders and guidelines, in line with the mountain safety rules.

1. Follow the advice of the authorities at all times
Keep in mind that it can change at short notice. Only use secure sources for information about the virus and disease - check helsenorge.no  http://helsenorge.no/coronavirus

2. Our behavior can save lives
Take responsibility for avoiding the spread of infection. Be careful about hand hygiene and maintain a distance of at least one metre from other people. Respect the quarantine rules.

3. Accept your own and others' feelings
We all react differently in stressful situations. It is normal to feel sad, tired, confused, worried or angry during a crisis.

4. Don not use alcohol or other drugs to cope with a stressfull situation
Manage your emotions in a healthy way.

5. Keep in touch with friends and family
Use telephone, email or social media if you can't stay in touch with them physically.

6. Show care
Make a special effort to contact someone you think may be experiencing loneliness. Do not visit anyone in quarantine or isolation.

7. The virus can hit anyone and everyone
Do not contribute to fear of the virus causing stigmatisation of individuals or groups.

8. Take care of yourself
Maintain a healthy diet, stay active and get enough sleep even if you work at home or in quarantine. Take time to relax with movies, books, or anything else. Don't spend all your time watching news.

9. Don't put yourself or others in a situation where you need help
from health or emergency resources outside one's own home. Do not go on cabin trips or any other unnecessary journeys. You can spread contagion and overload local emergency preparedness and health services.
