Business disciplines are operational tasks that support a company's existence. Disciplines also can be thought of as functions or specialties. Common business disciplines are management, marketing, information technology, and finance. You might view business disciplines as foundations that you use to execute your ideas. Companies often use business disciplines differently, according to size, preferences and market needs. An entrepreneur with a home-based business might perform all functions within each discipline. A corporate retail chain will execute a more sophisticated information technology infrastructure than a local mom-and-pop outlet.
