HINTS FOR A GOOD INTERVIEW



BEFORE THE INTERVIEW


1.      Research the Company

a.      Specialty

b.      Number of Employees

2.      Prepare clothing for interview

3.      Find out when, where, time, and who you will be talking to

4.      Get there early (10 to 15 minutes)

5.      Call if you are going to be late



WAITING ROOM


1.      Be patient

2.      Be courteous

3.      Read any literature about Company that might be available



DURING THE INTERVIEW


1.       Be aware of body language

a.      Walk briskly

b.      Hold head high

c.      Good posture

d.      Maintain good eye contact

e.      Give a firm handshake

f.        Smile

2.      Be yourself - listen to questions carefully (think before you answer)

3.      Be frank and straightforward (be as positive as possible)

4.      Be sensitive to getting the right match - you must evaluate the company, the   position, the job opportunity - just as you are being evaluated

5.      Do not bring up the salary requirements in the initial interview

6.      Remember that Personnel people generally try to "Screen Out" and Line people try to "Screen In"

7.      Use the "Halo Effect"  (I am wonderful)

8.      If the interview includes lunch or dinner, order economically

9.      Do not smoke

10.    Balance off negatives with a positive



CLOSING THE INTERVIEW


1.      Express a desire to work for the company

2.      Ask questions

3.      Make sure you understand the next step

4.      Thank the interviewer for his/her time

5.      Shake hands



AFTER THE INTERVIEW


1.      Evaluate

2.      Send Thank You note

3.      Follow-up
